Bill is the former Senior Vice President of Core Business Services at GlaxoSmithKline and is currently the CEO of the Datasphere Project. CBS is an integrated, shared service with global responsibility for Information Technology, Accounting Services, Employee Services, Procurement, Real Estate Management, and Facilities Management. CBS was designed and launched under Bill\u2019s leadership in 2011. Bill joined the GSK Corporate Executive Team in 2007 as Chief Information Officer. He remained as CIO until 2012, when he delegated that responsibility to one of his direct reports.<\/p>\n
Bill has built on his background in statistics and computing to become a thought leader in analytics and big data. Bill serves as a technology advisor to Data Direct Networks, a company that provides storage components for high-performance computing. Previously, he advised Netezza, a company recently acquired by IBM that provides analytics appliances.<\/p>\n
Bill joined the pharmaceutical industry with Merrell Dow in 1986 as Director of Statistics, and was promoted to positions of increasing responsibility over an 8-year period. Bill joined Glaxo Inc. (USA) in 1994 as Vice President of Clinical Statistics and Data Management and was promoted to worldwide responsibility for Statistics and Data Management for GlaxoWellcome in 1995. He transitioned into Information Technology in 1998 as Vice President of R&D IT. Bill led the IT group that supported the US Commercial business from 2001 to 2005.<\/p>\n
Bill has a B.S. in biology from the College of William and Mary, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University of Florida. In his early career, he was a Member of Technical Staff at Bell Laboratories and then Associate Professor of Biostatistics at University of Alabama at Birmingham. Most of his academic papers were published while at those research organizations.
